Filesystem backed by the microcontroller's own flash, or null where the platform has none.

Parameters

format_on_fail

Format and mount when the storage is absent or corrupt. Off by default: reformatting discards whatever was there, which is rarely wanted unprompted.

Honored on ESP32, whose core takes the flag directly. ESP8266 exposes a no-argument begin() with no such hook and ignores it — an unformatted filesystem there simply fails to mount, which is the safe outcome either way.
